lots has happened, little has been posted...until now!

oslo for a weekend

this is how it all began--we rented a car and i got to drive!! it was such a good little car, we did not even use a whole tank of gas.
vigelandsparken: famous outdoor sculpture park in oslo. started in 1926 it has over 212 sculptures. this is just the view of the paths leading up to the scupltures, but note the snow, everywhere!
the monolitten, over 14m tall, the center of the park.
vikingskipshuset: the viking ship museum. incredible. houses three ships from the epic age. and i learned overhearing the tour that no, the vikings did not wear hats with horns. someone made that up.
eliot and i went cross-country skiing. this is us on the trail that led to our doom of lostness, but this was before that when we were peachy-keen to go forever in the lonely forest.

well, this is not me, but this is christmas and these are the infamous katie t-shirts that survived and actually made it to maine!
zermatt, my tracks through powder above. the snow was so deep that if you lost speed, you were totally stuck. like my hat? thanks mom.

george square. lighting of the xmas tree followed by fireworks! it was packed.
yeah! they were quite impressive for such a seemingly small occassion especially following the last batch for bonfire night.

stockholm on my 21st!

a statue in stockholm right by the baltic sea. our first day.

water and bridges in the city center. across the way you can make out the museums of national history and modern art.
going out on my birthday to a swedich club. alberto, pedro, me, and ana.
city at night. i have no idea what this thing is but it looks really pretty at night--which is from 3:30 when sun sets.

the average beautiful trees and statues just around the city.

our first day in stockholm, me on some bridge--they are everywhere, this place is surrounded by water.
a man fishing off one of the many bridges in the city. he caught this one right when we walked by and the poor thing was wriggling on the ground.

me and lily at bonfire night! guy fawlke's day. in 1605, 13 men along with guy fawlkes attempted to blow up the House of Parliament and kill the king. on november 5 the plot was discovered and guy fawlkes, a notorious traitor, was burned at the stake. on this day everyone in the UK celebrates by setting bonfires to symbolize his burning and fireworks for the foiled plan of the Parliament being burnt.

iona abbey. it was incredibly windy here and dark, but so mystical.
ruins of iona nunnery.
waters of iona isle. amazingly blue and green even in bad weather. truly charming.
nice.

me in a castle on mull. we were allowed to walk throughout the entire place and it was gorgeously furnished!
village of tobermory on mull. the cutest fishing port on the east coast. famous for its painted houses.
this is actually a building at the university, but i thought it was pretty enough to post.

my belgian friend, david. we are in the car going to the grocery, i think.
in czech republic, on our way to the festival we hitched a ride with these locals in traditional dress for the occassion.

lhota, czech republic. where i volunteered for two weeks. this is the trail we walked each morning and night. the weather was always this nice.
a view from prague castle--there was not too much better than this moment. i had to climb a few hundred stairs in a narrow spiralling stair case to see this. and it was worth every step.
me at a cafe in a small town in the south of the czech republic taking a cappucino with david, a belgium friend.
a memorial to the massacre of 1692 where the cambell clan slaughtered the macdonalds in glencoe.
this is me and my german friend lily going out to a party.
the road through glencoe--the only road.
i went to glencoe last weekend. this is a picture from the road right where the bus dropped us off. amazing.
